DESIGNING AN 80s THEMED WINDOW VIGNETTE FOR CHARITY

PROJECTS FOR GOOD | WINDOW DISPLAYS

Kaleidoscope (formerly Molly’s Fund) is a nonprofit that, seeks to support research and resources to cure all forms of Lupus. People of African, Asian, and Native American descent are more likely to develop the diesease, and 90% of people diagnosed are women.

As a part of the organization’s annual giving and awareness campaign, Serving Up Style, eight design studios in Portland were asked to participate in designing a dining room vignette to be displayed in a set of windows along a thoroughfare in downtown Pioneer Square for a month. Each studio was given a decade to draw inspiration from, and Studio Butch received the 1980s.

Drawing on geometrics, pops of color, and terrazzo motifs; and through collaboration with local makers, artists, and our own DIY flex, we created a fan favorite filled with custom prints, furniture and quirky decor. The displays were unveiled at a gala fundraising event which raised thousands of dollars for the charity.

We at Studio Butch have a commitment to our community, and making the world a better place, one small design project at a time. We take on pro bono and discounted projects for causes that we believe in. While we can’t take on every opportunity that comes our way, if you have an opportunity you’d like to pitch, we’d love to hear from you.
