AZUL: POP-UP CONCEPT

ENVISIONING A CONTACTLESS POP-UP RETAIL EXPERIENCE

CONCEPTUAL PROJECTS | POP-UP RETAIL | BRAND ACTIVATIONS

Azul is a fictional, emerging online marketplace that sells a wide variety of hard goods from makers and suppliers around the world. For this conceptual project, we created a scenario in which Azul hired us to help them grow their market share by connecting with consumers through a pop-up, outdoor market that will be activated across several major cities.

Conceived in the world of COVID-19, we envisioned a collection of incredibly versatile outdoor pods that provided high product visibility and allowed for social distancing and a contactless retail experience.

Removable awnings provide rain/shade cover. Designed to connect in a grid, they can create pathways between networks of cubes.

Self-service lockers, similar to a high-end vending machine, allow for contactless purchases and pick-up.

THE CUBES MAXIMIZE THE SAFETY OF OUTDOOR WINDOW SHOPPING, WHILE MORE DIRECTLY INVITING SALES.

The outcome was a boutique cube design that essentially serves as a mobile window shopping experience, where consumers can see products in real life—with or without touching—based on the health mandates of the day. The concept is particularly useful for products that are more difficult to shop online, and to forge the ever-important in-person brand experiences that help develop consumer loyalty.

While the cubes lend themselves to customers making purchases via e-commerce on their own phones and then fulfilled and delivered to their homes, the concept also includes designs for shoppable product lockers where customers could scan a QR code to purchase the product on display within.

The basic cube design allows for maximum flexibility to view product while incorporating shoppable lockers and displays around other sides.

A conceptual elevation of the cubes located in a park plaza, emphasizing the ability to provide ample space for customer flow and social distancing as needed.

A conceptual top view of a cluster of cubes being used in a market set-up connected by weather awnings.

A top view render of the cubes including a custom set of awnings designed for the imaginary Azul brand, and a translucent-roofed kiosk.

With an eye toward making the cubes easily transported, the relatively light-weight structures were designed with a palette-base, detachable framing, and dimensions to fit inside a truck. Optional awnings provide additional weather guards, and can be connected to each other in cases where more than one cube is being used on-site.

The styling for the rendered cubes was created to fit the imagined brand aesthetic of Azul, however the simplicity of the base structure means the cubes can be designed to suit nearly any brand, product category, and myriad activation types.

As the affects of COVID-19 continue to affect consumer behavior, we believe brands have a unique opportunity to capture consumer engagement and loyalty through hybrid experiences that safely bridge digital and physical retail, like these cubes.

BIG BRANDS CAN CONNECT WITH CONSUMERS SOMEWHERE UNEXPECTED, AND NACENT BRANDS CAN APPEAR IN MARKETS THEY MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE BE.

The center ‘window’ of the cube provides ample space for an eye-catching display, such as this concept for champagne.

Flexible framing allows for product display, signage, and digital integration across all sides of the cubes.

A cube designed to serve as a hub for contactless purchases and order pick-up using lockers activated by QR codes.
